Food Insecurity
National Swipe Out Hunger Program
Swipe Out Hunger is a nation-wide program that partners with colleges to help put an end to student hunger and assist those who struggle with food insecurity. Student Assistance and Support Services has partnered with Leadership & Community Engagement, Chartwells Dining Services, Auxiliary Services, and the Sustainability Office to bring this program to UNC Charlotte.
Eligibility for Swipe Out Hunger Program at UNC Charlotte
The Swipe Out Hunger Program aims to provide students who are food insecure, and/or who are experiencing an emergency situation, access to healthy and well-balanced meals in our campus dining halls. Students must demonstrate an extenuating need that warrants use of the program. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in classes during the current term of their inquiry. Additionally, if you have previously used the Swipe Out Hunger Program, you were informed via your confirmation email that you must have used all awarded swipes for that semseter to be eligible to utilize the program in the future.
If you meet this initial requirement and would like to complete a needs-based assessment to determine your further eligibility for the program, please email Student Assistance and Support Services (studentsupport@charlotte.edu) directly with your inquiry. Please see the program update below before emailing the office.
Spring 2025 Program Update
At this time, Student Assistance and Support Services (SASS) has distributed all available swipes for the Swipe Out Hunger Program for the Spring 2025 term. Students seeking this support program are encouraged to utilize additional resources, noted below.

Additional Resources
Student Assistance and Support Services (SASS) encourages students to utilize additional resources to meet their food needs, including the Jamil Niner Student Pantry. As of July 1, 2024, the Dean of Students Office provides oversight of the Jamil Niner Student Pantry. Students are encouraged to review information on the pantry website regarding scheduling appointments to shop at the pantry, volunteering at the pantry, and donating to the pantry.
